The wheat semi-dwarfing genes Rht1 and Rht2 from the Japanese variety Norin 10 resulted in "Green Revolution" wheat with a reduced height of 60–110 cm.
These genes concomitantly reduce coleoptile length, which can be deleterious in arid, low soil moisture conditions. This set of materials was developed using alternative semi-dwarfing genes which do not affect coleoptile length.
