A chromosome introgression into bread wheat from Lophopyrum ponticum (syn. Thinopyrum ponticum) introduced the leaf rust resistance gene Lr19 and the stem rust resistance gene Sr25, which confers resistance to the African race Ug99, as well as a gene that increases yellow pigment in the endosperm. These materials are a result of homoeologous recombination to reduce the yellow pigmentation while retaining the rust resistance.
