A group of 12 sweetpotato accessions was phenotypically selected, according to morphological diversity in the skin color of the storage roots (white, cream, yellow, orange, brown-orange, pink, red, red-purple and very dark purple). and flesh color (white, cream, yellow and orange) from the International Potato Center (CIP) sweetpotato germplasm collection. The morphological characterization was done in the experimental station of San Ramón at 800 m altitude in the department of Junín-Perú.
The CIP conserves one of the largest collections of sweetpotato germplasm as a public good under the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) with 5,620 accessions conserved in vitro. This sweetpotato germplasm is available for distribution to requestors for research, training, and breeding purposes
