Vernalization, the requirement of plants experiencing a prolonged exposure to 1-5C to accelerate flowering in wheat, is an essential adaptation to cold winters. Cytogeneticists have introgressed vernalization (vrn) genes into various adapted wheat backgrounds to better test crop and varietal adaptation.
The genetic stocks described in this set of materials have been developed to understand the affects of vernalization genes in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum).
