Sorghum Mini Core Collection Post-Flowering Drought Tolerance

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) crop in the semiarid tropics often suffers from post-flowering drought stress, which causes substantial losses in grain yield and stover quality. The sorghum mini core accessions were assessed for grain yield under post-flowering drought stress under the managed drought stress experiments. Drought tolerance index (DTI), as a standard residual after removing the known contributory effects of flowering time and grain yield under optimum irrigation (yield potential) from the grain yield under drought stress, was used to segregate the genotypic responses to drought stress. Based on DTI, seven accessions were identified as drought tolerant (Upadhyaya et al. 2017). This subset contains sorghum germplasm identified as tolerance to post-flowering drought stress.
