The materials identified in this subset were identified as exhibiting superior performance in hot and dry areas of India.
Wheat production in India has always been regarded as a gamble with seasonal temperatures. Major parts of the country have tropical to subtropical climates where average winter temperatures remain high. The greatest risk of damage is in the drier areas (the Central and Peninsular Zones) where temperatures remain warm and the duration for wheat growth is rather short.
