The following is a list of forage varieties released either by the public or private sector since the 1980s as a result of germplasm evaluation and selection carried out by CIAT and its partners, as well as cultivars resulting from research by national R&D institutions around the world. Table 5 in the publication attached also shows the time interval from germplasm acquisition to cultivar release. It is worth mentioning that since the 1990s, CIAT's breeding focus had been on the selection of pastures and legumes adapted to acid soils, measuring not only their forage potential but also their ability to improve and restore soil fertility. Since 2006/7, the research focus of CIAT's Tropical Forages Program has been further refined to include forage adaptation to climate change and its potential contribution to ecosystem services, including mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.
