Pole bean with a strong twining tendency. Almost solid purple-red stems and dark green leaves. Dark pink flowers. Very young pods have a purple suture and develop extensive purple blushing as they mature. Slightly curved, flat pods have a long beak. Mature pods average 5" long by 0.4" wide. Weak suture string becomes strong as pod expands. Standard productivity. Snap beans found to be slightly tough by staff, but enjoyed by donor. Leathery dry pods with extensive dark purple pigmentation. Black bean with 6-8 seeds per pod. Dry beans have a smooth and dry texture with a slightly smoky flavor. Mid-season maturing. obtained by AL HA C from her mother, who acquired it from neighbors Pete & Tina Hornsby. Passed down to Pete from his great Granddad via maternal uncle Jim West. Has been grown by the West family for more than 140 years
