Pole bean. Green stems and leaves. Dark pink flowers. Pods green with purple blush when flat, yellow with purple stripes and blush at shelling stage, leathery-podded when dry. Pods are round in diameter, slightly curved, with long, downward curving beak. Mature pods 6-10" long, 0.4-0.7" wide. Weak string when flat, fully expanded pods becoming fibrous. Very good as a snap bean when flat. As a shelling bean, easily shelled, slightly sweet, buttery, rich flavor. A staff favorite shelling bean in 2013. 5-8 seeds per pod. Seeds kidney shaped, gray with purple mottling wash, dark stripes. Late maturity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. given to Mark Reusser (ONT RE M) by his great-aunt Erma Cressman, who recounted that it was grown by Erma's grandmother Bechtel as early as 1900 in Waterloo County, Ontario
