The Date Palm Arboretum at Arizona State University (originally established in the early - mid 1990s)has been moved due to University expansion. It is not currently curated nor well documented. Scott Frische and Ron Palmer obtained permission to provide the Repository with offshoots of some varieties not in the NCGRCD collection. These varieties are labelled but in some cases the identity is not known with 100 % certitude. The donors state that "It compares favorably to Nixon's description of Braim. The fruit of this palm is sweet in the khalal stage unlike the Manistee Ranch Braim [RPHO 27]."(RRK, 09/2007)
This was one of a number of accessions surveyed using SSR microsatellite markers (18 nuclear and 1 chloroplast) by Frederique Aberlenc and Jean-Christophe Pintaud. In an email received 2012-08-09, J-C Pintaud stated: This sample matches a cultivar from Pakistan we have under the name of Makran". thus, the identity of this accession remains uncertain as it is almost certainly not 'Makran' unless that is a synonym for another name.
