From the donor's notes: "Identification was determined by the general appearance of the tree, examination of the leaf, pinnae, spine, and fruitstalk. A close examination of the khalal stage fruit and the seed was most revealing. The characteristics of this tree very closely match the descriptions and pictures in Nixon's book. Scott Frische was present at the time of identification and concurred."
Thus, the identity of this tree is not certain. It should be observed and further compared to published descriptive material. It was received as offshoots (basically small plants, therefore coded as PL in the ACFORM field). (RRK, 04/2007)
This was one of a number of accessions surveyed using SSR microsatellite markers (18 nuclear and 1 chloroplast) by Frederique Aberlenc and Jean-Christophe Pintaud. In an email received 2012-08-09, J-C Pintaud stated: "The two samples [<a href="
This was one of a number of accessions surveyed using SSR microsatellite markers (18 nuclear and 1 chloroplast) by Frederique Aberlenc and Jean-Christophe Pintaud. In an email received 2012-08-09, J-C Pintaud stated: "The two samples [RPHO 22 and RPHO 23] are identical and match a cultivar for Irak we have under the name of Khastawy". It thus appears that both RPHO 22 and RPHO 23 are legitimate 'Kustawy' but some morphological observations should be made. (RR Krueger, 2013-05-20)
