Ahipa accessions with chromosome number determined

The number of chromosomes and the ploidy level of 31 accessions from the Pachyrhizus collection, comprising three species (P. ahipa, P. erosus and P. tuberosus), from the CIP genebank were determined in meristematic cells from roots sprouted at from stem cuttings using an optical microscope. All accessions of the three Pachyrhizus species evaluated were diploid (2n=2x=22). The CIP Pachyrhizus collection will continue to be evaluated and the existence of accessions with other ploidy levels is not ruled out.
