Maca accessions with chromosome number determined

The chromosome number and ploidy level of 15 accessions from the Maca (Lepidium meyenii) collection from the CIP genebank were determined in meristematic cells of roots sprouted from stem cuttings using an optical microscope. All accessions were octoploid (2n=8x=64). The CIP maca collection will continue to be evaluated and the existence of accessions with other ploidy levels is not ruled out.
