Evaluation of rice accessions against Brown Plant Hopper (BPH)
This dataset contains information about rice accessions screened for resistance to against brown plant hopper (BPH). These accessions are currently conserved at MARDI’s rice genebank. Plant breeders and scientists use the information contained in this dataset for identifying potential rice accessions to be included in their plant breeding programs. We conducted this evaluation in nurseries during the off planting season of 2016.

The screening activity is conducted at seedling stage on the standard seedbox screening test (SSST) according to method established by IRRI (Pathak and Khush, 1979). The test varieties are seeded in rows 5cm apart in seedbox. Each line is planted randomly in a 20cm long row (20 seedlings) along with resistant (Rathu Heenati) and susceptible check (TN1). Ten day old seedlings were infested with 3rd instar nymphs at the rate of 10 per seedling. After 10 days, at the time TN1 plants were almost completely died (score 9), the BPH resistance scores of plants were assessed as described by 5th edition of the Standard Evaluation System for Rice (SES, IRRI) (2013).
