According to the donor: "This palm has several characteristics of the Braim cultivar as described by Nixon. These include general appearance of the leaves and crown as well as shape and color of the khalal and rutab fruit. Young palms of this variety also compare favorably with a palm labeled "Braim" in the Arizona State University <I>Phoenix dactylifera</I> collection [RPHO 34]. It may be imporant to note that the khalal fruit of this palm has always tasted astringent to the collector. This was determined through random samplings over several growing seasons. The Braim cultivar is reputed to have sweet khalal fruit. This palm is prolific in offshoot production."<P>This accession is a clonal propagation of the seed source accessions RSD 2003017 and RSD 2003018. If it establishes, then the seed source introductions should be inactivated. Note that the identification of this accession was made by the donor and is not otherwise documented. (RRK, 09/2007)
