'Tieu' is one of the most important mandarin cultivars in Vietnam. Of 50 seeds received of RSD 1995017, 3 germinated. A nucellar seedling was indentied and maintained under protection (RRUT 87). A zygotic seedling was planted in the field for maintenance. This was apparently misidentified at some point as it appears to be a sweet lime (RRUT 432). This was propagated for maintenance under protection in 01/2009. (RR Krueger, 02/28/2010)<P>A Vietnam-born American citizen was enchanted by this accession. She informed us the "Tieu" means black pepper and that the fruit are very aromatic, including a black pepper aroma. The fruit was rated highly by both the Vietnamese-American visitor and a Chinese-American citizen. Additional Vietnamese-Americans and Chinese-Americans also pronounced it as being excellent. May be a candidate for clean up for niche market. Could use some assessments of basic fruit quality parameters. (RR Krueger, 02/13/2017)
