Genebank details

International crop research institute for the semi-arid tropics

The ICRISAT Regional Genebank in Niamey,  Niger was established in 1991 for the purpose of conserving and facilitating the use of plant genetic resources in West and Central Africa. Its collection is primarily composed of pearl millet, sorghum, groundnut and pigeonpea collected from the region.

The genebank is conserving thousands of safety duplicates from national genebanks of many countries. It is engaged in capacity building on plant genetic resources with West and Central Africa NARS partners, and contributes to developing national seed systems through training and providing healthy materials to researchers, breeders and farmers.

Note: The passport data of the accessions conserved in ICRISAT's Regional Genebank in Niamey is found in ICRISAT's Genesys page.
