NPGRL National Plant Genetic Resources Laboratory

The National Plant Genetic Resources Laboratory (NPGRL) of the Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB), College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) serves as the national repository of important and potentially useful agricultural crops including the wild and weedy relatives.

Through the years, since its establishment on November 12, 1976 by Presidential Decree 1046-A, it has acquired and is maintaining over 30,000 accessions of 300 species. Also known as the Genebank, NPGRL continuously undertakes acquisition, characterization, conservation and management, regeneration and documentation of plant genetic resources that are kept as seeds, live plants in the field, greenhouse, nursery and in vitro. It actively participates in activities to increase utilization and exchange of plant genetic resources to deliver its commitment in providing plant germplasm materials as sources of genetic variability to IPB and to both national and international crop improvement programs.
