The Irish Seed Savers Association (ISSA) is Ireland’s leading conservation organisation for cultivated plant genetic resources, working nationally and internationally to safeguard heritage seed and apple trees' diversity for present and future generations. ISSA is based on a 20-acre organic farm in Scariff, County Clare, where it manages Ireland’s only living genebank with more than 900 varieties, and the National Heritage Apple Tree Collection, comprising over 200 Irish apple varieties. ISSA’s conservation work aims to conserve, protect, utilise and educate, ensuring that heritage varieties remain widely available and continue to support resilient, reliable, and sustainable food systems. Its work underpins Ireland’s efforts to meet future global challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, food security, and food system resilience.
