Welcoming the SCVIC Armenia as a Data Provider

Genesys is pleased to welcome a new data provider: the Scientific Center for Vegetables and Industrial Crops (SCVIC) of Armenia.

Although SCVIC has been contributing data to Genesys for several years via EURISCO of the ECPGR network, the genebank formalized its collaboration with the Crop Trust by signing a Data Provider Agreement (DPA) in October 2025. This new step reflects its commitment not only to sustained data sharing, but also to expanding and enriching the information it makes available to the global plant genetic resources community.

SCVIC’s collection is a diverse vegetable and industrial crop portfolio that paints a vibrant picture of the crops that shape Armenian agriculture: a remarkable diversity of eggplant, tobacco, tomato, melons, cucurbits, and lesser-known solanaceous species, alongside beans, chickpeas, basil, quinoa, and others.

The center conserves everything from traditional Armenian local varieties shaped over generations, wild relatives that hold traits essential for future crop resilience, to large numbers of advanced cultivars and breeding lines. This illustrates SCVIC’s longstanding role as both a guardian of heritage diversity and an active source of research material for ongoing vegetable improvement programs.

Make sure to explore SCVIC’s collection on Genesys, and stay tuned for more data soon!
