Genebank details

Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute

The genebank of the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI) was established in 2013 with the repatriation of 1,300 accessions from the Millennium Seed Bank, jointly collected between 1996 and 2010. Over the years and through joint projects and collecting missions, LARI’s genebank doubled their number of accessions in ex situ long and medium-term conservation.

This collection covers over 1,070 taxa from 462 genera and is composed of 60% wild flora, 14% landraces (of wheat, barley, chickpea and lentils), and 26% of crop wild relatives of various cereals and forages. Most of this collection is available in the MLS and for immediate distribution. The genebank is also conserving herbarium specimens for each seed collection.`

Passport Data Completeness Index (PDCI)
Genesys uses the PDCI as an indicator of the completeness of published passport data. The PDCI uses the presence or absence of data points in the documentation of a genebank accession, taking into account the presence or value of other data points (van Hintum et al. 2011). For example, a wild accession should have a well-defined collection site but no variety name. The PDCI ranges from 0 to 10, where 0 is the minimum score assigned to rather incomplete passport records and 10 is the maximum score assigned to very complete passport records. Any type of accession, wild, landrace, breeding material or modern variety, can attain the PDCI’s maximal score.
Average PDCI score for 2,491 accessions is 6.72, with minimum score of 3.60 and maximum score of 8.35.
